Took your advice and bought a creative radeon 9600xt 256mb for £26 and got my eye on a few local power supplies.
Hopefully should be here tuesday
What would be the best drivers to use with this card?
I know using the latest drivers for my geforce card wasnt the best, and I went back to old drivers with better results.
It’s been a while (and new tyre physics update!) since I last looked at this thread.
Done a 40 lapper the other night and my fastest time was on lap 37!
(I realise fuel /set up is also a factor)
Most races that take part (public) are a lot less than 40 laps, so I never get to drive on optimum tyres.
50% worn tyres option must be easy to implement
If the PSU was a big issue then i would be willing to change if not to costly.
would there be a significant difference in graphic quality running without a fan
on memory I wasn't sure either on the correct type. non-ecc / cl2.5 ??
184-Pin PC2100 (266MHz) DIMM is what i got from google
Hi Guys
Help me get the best out of LFS , Been playing for 1 1/2 years and think I need a new GFX card.
I've searched on this subject loads, But the more I read, the more confused I get. Some of the threads just turn into an argument about whether to upgrade to better processors and motherboards or not, and all I want is a graphics card! Defiantly no cash to change pc
And then, the GFX card manufactures use their model numbers just too really screw you up.
So can you point me in the right direction?
I presume I need AGP card and I have 4xAGP. That’s about all I know.(Any point in 8XAGP?)
I have read about processor / motherboard bottlenecks, but am unsure when this would become a problem.
Also would the PSU, being 220w, be able to handle another fan on the GFX card if required?
In the UK (we drive on the left) if a lorry in front of me indicates right (outside), he is either over taking something or turning right.
If he indicates left (inside), he’s turning left or it’s safe for me to pass.
Also on track days here ,we are taught to indicate to the side we are moving to , just like on the road , you turn right you signal right .If your turning right , you don’t indicate left to tell the car behind he can pass on the left ...do you ???
I would use my indicators more ,but unsure of how to set them up on my thrustmaster force feedback wheel.
We have tyre temps; why not brake temperatures as well?
Believe me, there is nothing worse than slamming the anchors on into a hairpin to find a big pedalfull of nothing ....scary!
When the brakes are used excessively, the pads can glaze and the fluid can boil leading to brake fade. You’ve got to get your foot of the brakes to allow them to cool before full performance returns.
E.g. I think this would lead to better racing between good safe racers, as the leading driver brakes might heat up while defending the line, while the following driver can be smoother allowing him to pass under braking more easily.
Might not be as good for lesser experienced racers as they come ploughing up your bottom when they get brake fade .
1st type is a fuel cut off , which stops the engine reving any further , but also causes the engine to run lean .This momentary lean condition has the potential of causing det = bang!
2nd type cuts the ignition which is much safer, not sure which type is used in game
had the same thing , just take the pedals apart , you will see a toothed cog interacting with the pedal , just move the teeth a notch or two to give full travel
I definitely don’t have a problem getting them up to temperature; the problem is keeping them from getting to hot while there is still a lot of rubber left early in the race
Being able to use the same set of tyres for the next race would be a great help.
Or I'm sure easier to implement would be an additional tyre selection, with only a change in the rubber depth i.e. R2 full / R2 part
The thickness is obviously altered within the game due to wear rate, so it should be easy to change the starting value for rubber depth.
(Runs away and hides as know nothing about programming :hidesbehi )
Original post was about part worn tyres, I was just trying to give the previous poster some insight by mentioning scrubbed.
For most purposes, racing tyres will benefit from an appropriate 'Scrubbing in' procedure. This provides the best combination of performance and longevity under race conditions. There are several difficulties that arise when using racing tyres if they are not scrubbed in prior to use. The most common is "Cold Graining", where the layer of the tread compound in contact with the track, fails in shear with the layer below. The result is a very visible low frequency, high amplitude rippling effect, not just to remove the outer sheen. But I presume the tyre physics in game are not that advanced (yet )
The suggestion I made was for part worn tyres for shorter races (and probably qualifying as well).I think this is a valid point, especially as this is a racing sim
As Uniamed said, once the tyre is part worn, the rubber is thinner allowing the tyre to cool quicker. Therefore allowing the grip levels to increase quicker in short races.
While racing on a public server, is it possible to view the race on another PC which is on the same internet connection?
When I've got friends round, it would be great for them to watch in a better spectating view on the other PC.(Other than my wheels view)
I have S2 unlocked on the other PC, but when I try and connect it says the user name is already in use.
Is there any way round this apart from buying another licence and setting up another user just to spectate?
You cant wear a tyre out yourself before a race because you always start with a fixed car and new tyres.
im sure plently of professional racers use part worn slicks or scrubbed tyres for qualification etc.
I find running R2 tyres on short races could be improved by giving us part worn tyres . The thickness of the rubber makes a hugh difference to the way the tyre heats up .i find once they are thinner they cool down alot quicker .
while looking at the hotlap charts , i noticed that you could view the times by country.
i am listed under United Kingdom , but i now see that Scotland is listed seperatly .
i dont think the option for Scotland was there when i signed up ,only the U.K.
I might be wrong as these list never have Scotland seperate , but i always look.
I am Scottish ,not a United kingdomite.
i also read that the LFS nations cup had split the UK up into seperate countries.
In this age of global communities, more useful than a unit translator ,would be a language translator. There are often several different languages spoken here on a server, and if these could be displayed in your relevant language (correctly) communication would be much easier.
and I apologize in advance for being ignorant , as I only speak English, and I find most other nationalities have a grasp of a least 2 different languages
